Mission - The University of Maryland Clinical Informatics Group is concerned with the optimal use of information and technology to improve individual health, deliver safer and more efficient patient care, and enhance access to biomedical knowledge. It is led by an interdisciplinary team of physicians and informaticians dedicated to research, education, consulting, and mentoring on the application of information technology to the practice of medicine. The mission of the group is to focus on computational systems that expand the scope of clinical medicine, have a strong theoretical basis in computer science, are of strategic importance to the University of Maryland Medical Center, and encourage greater collaboration between the School of Medicine and other University of Maryland Institutions.
Principal Faculty - The Clinical Informatics Group is comprised of an inter-disciplinary and multi-department team of clinicians and investigators, with the principal members holding faculty appointments from the Departments of Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Diagnostic Radiology, Computer Science & Electrical Engineering, and Information Systems at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the University of Maryland Baltimore County. The principal members have authored more than 1,000 refereed publications, and have a strong history of grant funding from NIH, NSF, NIST, DHS, and DoD.
